Charles Wellford

Dr. Wellford has written extensively on improving the investigation of homicide and other serious crimes. In addition, he has consulted with over twenty agencies on using research to improve crime clearance. He is a past president and Fellow of the American Society of Criminology, and a lifetime national fellow of National Academy of Sciences where he chaired the Committee of Law and Justice. He is author or editor of six books and numerous articles on crime and justice issues. He was the co-founding chair of the Research Advisory Committee of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Police Executive Research Forum. At the University of Maryland, where he led the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice, he was the recipient of the President's Medal, the highest award given to one person each year.
